I just got a phone call from my mother (1610L) and was told that her mother past away at about 1500L. Just a few weeks back, I was sitting on the side of her bed and talking with her. She was awake, alert and you would never know she was ill if she wasn't breathing oxygen. It's not a shock that she passed, but it still hurts none the less.
She always used to talk about her youth and even had an article published in a book about Milford, CT. She used to look back fondly at the days when she was young and grew up down on Walnut Beach. My grandmother grew up and spent her whole life living in Milford. Most of her friends stayed in the same town too. I'll never forget the stories about how she spent her youth....hanging out in that beach town on the special beach (Walnut) and spending her best days of her life with "sand in her shoes."
Her heart was with her friends that past, her soul has been focused on being back with her friends....down at Walnut Beach. I do believe that she's with her mom that she loved so dearly...and is surrounded by all of her friends that she shared special relationships with her entire life.
I miss you Grandma.

Waxing Nostalgic
I remember being a teen in the early 90's and carrying a controversial peice of equipment called a "Pager." Another nickname for this device was a "Beeper." Back then, I had a pager because I worked after school and looking back, I don't know why it was even important to have one, but my mother liked the idea that she could get a hold of me and I felt cool with a piece of plastic that held a battery and had a screen with a light and it would vibrate when someone was trying to reach me. It was my good friend, Carmichael Simon, who encouraged me to get one. He had one and I just thought it was the coolest thing in the world that we could page each other. He was #1 in the nation with some form of Karate and I worked as a bus boy at the Restaurant in Comfort Inn and Conference Center in Bowie. Also at that time in my life, I met a cool kid named, Ryan Schneider. One day, he invited me over to his house and his mother, Sheila, opened the door. I asked if Ryan was home (as that seemed an appropriate thing to say) and her first words to me were, "Who are you?" I said my name and told her I was a friend of Ryan's from school and her next response was, "Are you a drug dealer?" I was astonished at how cold and bold this lady was. I didn't realize at that second that she was looking at my pager. My response was "No" yet I was still mildly in shock by the way this woman was talking to me. She then said that she saw my pager and assumed I was a drug dealer. "Why would I have a pager unless I was a drug dealer?" Fast Foward to 2007 for a moment. Pagers are in museams and every kid young or old had a cell phone. Were Carmichael and I pioneers of a youth communication movement....??? No, but it was cool to be able to page each other. Back to my story - Sheila couldn't really accept the reality that I wasn't selling drugs, even though I've never touched them and after a few more judgmental questions, including, "Why didn't you use the side door?" As if I was a regular visitor at that point and should've known the family protocol for passage into the Schneider household. As it turned out, Sheila realized over time that I was just a normal kid who didn't sell drugs and lived with values that were far different than she was used too. I can't tell you how she couldn't possibly believe that I was a real Republican. Oy...Mrs. Schneider sure knew how to give me a hard time. I did enjoy the time period I spent hanging with Ryan though. We had a pretty good group of friends who spent a lot of time just laughing. Ryan and Chad Schneider; Joe "Gravy train" Graham and Brad Moser...I often wonder, what ever happened to those guys?
This story itself brings back some names that at the time, one would have thought would still be well known today. Do you remember....Metrocall; Mobilecomm; Startac; CellOne; Sprint Spectrum; Flex Technology or those text pagers that you could read the text but not respond with text? Back then, there was no such thing as free nights and weekends or roll over minutes. You were lucky to get a plan with any free minutes at all. Roaming was the nuclear holocost of cell phone travel. You could end up spending your life savings on a call that you made outside of your calling area....even though you only spoke for 20 mins. I don't think there was a strip mall in the country that didn't have a pager/cell phone store.
Now, I own a cell phone that is 100 times more advanced then any of the old pagers and cell phones I had in the past....and I all I want to do with it is throw it against a wall and watch it break into pieces. The Motorola V551 from Cingular...an example of good technology stuffed into a worthless device. It would be like sticking a top notch GPS Navigation System, heated leather power seats with memory and separate driver and passenger heat/cool controls in an 87 Yugo. I guess I should mention that my parents bought a Yugo back in 1988. My parents gave all the late 80's soccer parents something to laugh at.

State of the Onion
Have you ever wondered what this country would be like if Democrats and Republicans actually dropped the party line politics and did what was right for the country? During Bush's State of the Union, he actually had some bright ideas. But, because parties play politics...the good ideas will likely never see the light of day and at the end of the day, both of our big political parties will point fingers and say ha, gotcha...just like kids playing in a school yard. Now, Iraq is still a mess and we've been there for quite a while with no significant sign of leaving. Bush wants more time...I'm all for it if there is some shred of evidence that we'll use that time wisely. I don't believe it would be smart for an immediate pull out....but a slow draw back might work. I figure...the Iraqi people have shown to be too wacked out for peaceful living....so let them shoot each other up and we'll keep our own soldiers alive. Cold...sure...but the status quo isn't making all that much of a difference at this point. Well...that and my Jewieness doesn't have a huge issue with Arabs concentrating on killing each other instead of Israel.
Back to an idea Bush had on health care. He wanted to give tax breaks to those of us who buy our own and those of use who pay additional costs even though our employers pay the bulk of it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that was my understanding of his idea. Frankly....I do think this would provide more people with healthcare coverage and it would do it in a manner that would not cause the healthcare system to suffer a loss of quality. I also agree that healthcare should be up to doctors and patients...not Insurance and especially not a Government Controlled Socialized Healthcare System. And...tort reform....did anybody else notice how one side of the house supports it and the other side sat silent? Who the hell votes for anybody that supports more law suits? People....that is why costs rise! Costs go up because Law suits get bigger and companies have to pay more. Sure...there are a lot of crooked CEO's and Executives making way more than a human would ever need.....but the biggest reason for companies to raise their prices might just have to do with the higher costs of doing business and the extreme fears of legal battles.
I hate snow! Winter has finally arrived and though I certainly appreciated and enjoyed the long fall season....I still hate winter and can not wait for spring.
Did I mention that my flight lessons have ground to a halt? Oh yeah...Weather Related....can't do a damn thing until I can find a day where I'm available, a plane is available and there is no forcast for temps that might cause freezing...high winds....snow and heavy cloud coverage. Come on Spring....come early this year. If that F&^%ing Ground Hog sees his shadow again...I'm going to be tempted to go find his ass and shave him so he freezes. Do you realize how many times that little SH^T has seen his shadow in the past decade. He needs to break that habit. If I can quit my nail chewing...then that little fur ball can grow some Gonads and stand up to his own shadow. It's ok...I'm not bitter. Everything is fine.
I went out and purchased this El Cheapo accounting software so I keep better track of my business. There is a lesson that I learned....and I'll just have to keep learning it over and over again throughout life. You get what you pay for. Funny thing is...my Laptop is Freaking awesome and it didn't cost half as much as comparable brand name machines. Hence...why this lesson is so tough to grasp. Oh well...life goes on and now I'm going to purchase a more expensive software that will actually do what I want it to do. And if not....I'll give up...shave my own ass and freeze.
Craig is in court today with his future ex wife. I can't wait to hear the results. I wanted to go watch the festivies and eat popcorn while the hearing took place. But...it's a day off and since I haven't had too many of them lately...I need to catch up with my own life. That includes catching up with my business accounting.....and today...that means finding, installing and using a software that is going to have to keep my business accounting up, with how fast I can work.

Monday Monday....
There I was, laying in bed Monday morning. Just falling asleep again after my wife kissed me goodbye. This Monday was going to be very slow for me and I was going to enjoy it as I've been working my ass off lately. Then....the phone rings! Sheri called to tell me she was in a horrible traffic jam and asked if I could look online and see if there was an alternate route. There was not and she and I talked for a little bit while she was sitting in traffic. Sheri was frustrated by those A-holes who always seem to jump in the "breakdown lane" and don't really help a traffic situation. I looked on the news to see the cause of the heavy traffic and discovered that both lanes of the highway were closed at 2:30am and would remain closed for most of the day and into the evening commute. There had been an extremely bad accident on I83. Since Sheri had nothing else to do but sit, we talked and I listed as she blew the horn at another one of those "breakdown lane" drivers. When she honked, the ABS light came on. Strange....??? She figured she would shut the car off to clear the fault and then start up again. When she tried to restart the car...it was dead. After a short panic, she heard my words, "Call 911" which she did and had a tow truck and officer dispatched to her vehicle. Both the cop and the truck took over an hour to arrive. Thank god it wasn't longer as the temps were very cold and she had no vehicle heat. During that hour, she did find one nice citizen who helped her push the car off to the side. While on the side, another "breakdown lane" driver went around her by driving in the dirt and up a slope to get around her car. Nice! By this time, I was sitting home waiting for her to call me back and let me know where a tow truck was going to pick her up. We couldn't stay on the cell too long as she had no way to charge the battery if she needed too. The call came through and she was on her way to an auto shop in York, PA.
My guess was that the Alternator died. I noticed some signs of an alternator that had a short life to live about 2 weeks ago. Her heater fan seemed to rev with the engine and there was a whining sound as she would accelerate. We raced over to an auto parts store for an alternator and had it sitting in her back seat. Her dad was going to install it for her. About a week ago, her dad diagnosed the whining as a bad belt and changed it, but tested the alternator and said it was ok....so she returned it. Well....a week later, that alternator drained the battery enough while sitting in traffic. It trained it to the point that her horn drew enough power to cause a fault in the ABS system. Had she kept the engine running instead of shutting down, it would've died a little later in the morning. By the end of the day, we dropped nearly $450 into a new battery, new alternator and a tow....plus labor.
So, there we were sleeping peacefully in bed at 3am when the phone rang. My renter in Baltimore was calling to ask how to shut off the alarm as it somehow went on and he couldn't get it to shut off. Neither of my codes were working. It didn't alarm the police....thank god....and I had him go into the box itself and start disconnecting wires until it would shut down.
S.H.I.T. Sure Happy It's Tuesday!
Two more items:
1. Justus.....I think I've got it. Will www.aerheger.com be up and running anytime soon?
2. My grandmother has taken a turn for the worse and there may be yet another loss to my family. This is getting ridiculous.

Drained and Confused
It is early afternoon on what I think is Thursday. I'm still laying in bed as I'm exhausted from working a long night at BWI. During my evening, I spoke with Justus for a while. It's always nice to hear from him, especially lately as I glad to see his spirits are high. Justus neglected to mention that World Airways has a new paint scheme which is quite nice compared to the old white and boring look of the past several years. I also "clicked" last night...but I must have clicked something wrong as I'm still not seeing anything that resembles a newly registered website. Justus...when will the madness stop.....I don't know what you're talking about?!?!?!
I also heard from Mr. Jeff Hice last night. It was great to talk to Fluffy again, even though we were discussing a tragic story. There is some sad news at the airport as another ASIG veteran has been laid to rest. Mary Weber used to work with the passenger service department for many years. She was always a nice person...a little odd...but still nice. She has 5 kids and I think 2 of them are still very young. Last week, Mary was killed while crossing the street in Gambrills, MD. Per some of the ASIG folks who know more about the story, there is a lot of controversy about what happened. (Strictly rumors: She got out of her car into moving traffic. There was a gun involved.) She had been separated from her husband as he burnt their house down and obviously had a few screws loose. I will say this, you can read the artical in the Baltimore Sun and it looks as though her sister in law threw her under the bus. Pardon the pun.
Speaking of news today. Baltimore's mayor O'Malley has now officially left his post and became the new Governor of MD. He did great things for Baltimore and as a property owner in that city, I'm nervous about what the new mayor is going to ackomplish. Sheila Dixon now holds the top seat in Baltimore. I just hope she'll continue to aid in the infusion of quality ownership within the city. Martin O'Malley did a great job at cleaning up that city and that city has a long history of bad Mayors who didn't understand how to do what O'Malley made happen.

2 in 1 Day...I must be bored
I have gas! Chinese for dinner last night has left me hopping. I say hopping because everytime I take a step, I pass enough wind to push my body into a state of airboure flatulence. Who ever thought Ho Wah's Chicken and Garlic Sauce could be the key to human flight?
As mentioned in my prior Blog today, tonight (right now,) I'm at BWI. Just kicked out a 757 bound for JFK and I sauntered over to the ASIG passenger service office. I'll be you didn't know I could saunter? Is there a difference between amature and professional saunter? Basically, I'm over here to chat with Gabe Mebratu about the politics of Iraq, Somalia and Ethiopia....and take advantage of the World Airways food that ASIG has stashed in their cabinets. A cheap boy has to eat too! I don't know about the rest of the ASIG folks, but I'm glad that World Airways is doing some more flying out of BWI. We were running critically low on bags of pretzels and Nazi Cookies. Also...in case anyone was unaware....Nazi's make incredible cookies...in addition to those amazing camp sites they are so well known for. Who knew Hitler had such a sweet tooth?
Since I don't have anything going on for a while, unless the phone rings, I'm going to study some private pilot stuff. I have got to get this damn certificate soon...this "keep the knowledge fresh" thing is crazy.
Off to poo and study. If I was feeling like more of a pig, I would take a picture of my poo and post it to the blog...but I'm just not feeling that sick right now. Maybe later?

Dangle a Dictator, Gain a Nightmare
The new year has already produced a heavy workload. As I've said before and I am not complaining...I hope it continues. So far, I've had Jan 1st off...Yesterday and that was a suprise day off due to a North American flight running 24 hours late...and my next day off is Jan 15th. I've got bills to pay, goals to meet and money to save.
It has been a while since I last blogged and a lot has happened in the world since my last brain dropping online. First, my thoughts on world events:
President Saddam Hussein is dropped and hung from a rope: I'm not so sure at this point that this was such a brilliant idea. We probably should've had him convicted for his crimes and then put back into power. Kind of like Clinton. But it would've been more beneficial to the world if Saddam were to take control of Iraq again as he was the only one in recent history who could actually control the people in that country. With his unexpected comfort during his hanging, I wonder if he stood there and thought in his last few moments...Bush thought he won....now who has the last laugh?
Democrats take the Congress: I was not opposed to this as the Republicans did need a severe wake up call as they appeared to have their eyes wide shut and asleep at the wheel. Now, the Democrats are already starting to piss me off. Kennedy wants socialized health care and has some strange idea that we'll have a better medical system and still maintain the levels of advanced care that we currently sustain. Folks...is it any wonder why so many very wealthy people come to America for health care? They never go to Denmark, England, Canada, Germany, etc... Why??? Because Socialized health care may take care of colds and flu for the masses but it doesn't produce shit for high tech healing. Put in some tort reforms and watch the doctors insurance bills drop. Then...you might see some affordable healthcare while continuing to develope new science that can improve lives. On top of that, we are looking at a tax increase around 2010 when Bush's cut may be removed. OK...Lets talk history for a second. Tax increases don't improve the economy. The only reason they didn't play a major role in the 90's economy was because of a Tech Boom (.com bubble) and it burst. What happened after the burst? The higher taxes were lowered and the economy took off like a bat out of hell. A recession only lasted 2 quarters....Not bad at all.
If you don't have Sirius or XM Radio by now, it's time to go get it. I've been listening to FM more than I want to so my cell phone can charge. My radio is powered from the lighter and I'm too lazy to go get a split end power cord. Anyway, the commercials are enough to make me want to drive off the road and if I don't hit anything that kills me...I'd shoot myself just to end the madness. How can Infinity or Clear Channel (the owners of an overwhelming majority of radio stations) possibly think that by adding HD to the current radio system that it's going to improve? With all the commercials bringing you HD sound...who cares...it's still lousy content...so what if it sounds clear! By the way, I'm jumping on the predictions bandwagon for a second and predicting a merger between Sirius and XM. Serious is growing so strong and XM is struggling, the competition will probably end sometime within the next couple of years and I think you'll see a Sirius on top with a product that delivers excellent content. (Also note - XM is partly owned by Clear Channel and is now broadcasting commercials on some of their music stations - Sick)
I've been watching Obanair.com a lot lately and happened to run into it's creator. Justus is looking great and sounding happy as a clam. Great to see you so happy. I also have no idea what website you registered so feel free to fill me in.
Conlin is also slow to update though he did recently post a new blog. Jeff...Poetry...There are many who adore and appreciate poetry. I on the other hand, don't think with such depth, and I'm ok with admitting that...I do enjoy the personal touch that comes out each time you spill your thoughts onto the web. The pictures do look like you're enjoying your life and my god...I'm so happy to see it.
Dinner this Friday night with Rob...I can't wait. I was going to be able to drink, however I now have to work late that night. Oh well...I'll take the best of both worlds and make a deposit the next day.
Flying....not much lately. Been too busy with work and either the weather or the planes are not available. Maybe later this month??? I HOPE!!!
And finally...Craig called....he's going to court with his ex on January 25th. Finally...this long divorce might come to an end.
