Ice and Airports...Bad Mix
I spent the night at the Embassy Hotel BWI last night. We got socked with a wicked ice storm that coated the planes and prevented any departures. Did you know that planes can NOT take off in ice...but snow is ok for departure? Most people don't know that little fact, so I thought I would share it with all who might google the word, Ice. I'm currently working a Miami Air flight that is on a mechanical delay. The HF radio is inoperative and therefore, they can not cross the North Atlantic. In addition to that problem, our destination weather is suffering from high winds and that might put the passengers back into the hotels for a second night. Busy couple of days...I just hope I'll be home tonight for Valentines. It would be nice to spend that time with my wife instead of airplanes.
This past weekend, Sheri and I went up to CT between all of my flights (approx 24 hours) to scatter my Grandmother's ashes along Walnut Beach in Milford, CT. Dorothy Newman was a strong women with a lot of spunk. She had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. I'll miss her dearly and as much as it hurt to watch her ashes fall along the cold wet sand, I know her soul was soaring as her remains joined the remains of all of her friends who have past before her. She always talked about being scattered there....she got her wish. It was a beautiful close and small family moment...perfect. My mother did exactly what her mother wanted her to do. I know it was hard for my mom and I give her a lot of credit for how well she's handled the pain that I know she is feeling. In a teary sentence my mom said to me...."I don't have a mommy anymore." Heartbreaking!
I now only have 2 days off until March...a good problem to have. The temps are supposed to rise again next week....I'm going to see if I can't get back in the Cessna cockpit and start flying again.

A "World" of old space
I was just reading Justus's blog about World moving into the old ATA Warehouse space in Cargo Bldg B at BWI. Seems kind of strange....same old space....totally different carrier. I'm going to stop by one day and poo in their can....just for some nostalgia. I used to use the ATA Maintenance bowl quiet often. It was located so close to the exit gate from the ramp. You couldn't beat the location. You could literlly dump and run.
Enjoy the new space there....plenty of room....great location.....private crapper. What could be better than that?
Cheers

Political Waste and no changes....Anybody Shocked?
So, our new Democratic congress has been in office for less than a month and already the ideas and bills that were on their agenda which were supposed to "Change" Washington and make this land of ours better, has fallen victim to political waste. Republicans needed a spanking because of the time and money wasted on their watch. The Democrats used all the smooth, "Time for a Change" babble to get elected and give American voters the idea that a Democratic Party that has power...is the right direction for America.
Let's see now....how many days...no....weeks can we spend trying to draft a peice of paper to let the public and the President know about their feelings on additional troops in Iraq? Last time I checked, we just heard the past few years of hearing them voice their views. Good Morning Democrats....WE ALREADY KNOW YOUR VIEWS!!!!! Now, we get to watch and listen as the Jackass and the Elephant go toe to toe over exact verbage on why 21,500 more troops in Iraq is something you are against. The people are already in Iraq....time to get over it and move on with the business of "Making America Better," or has that been forgotten already. I heard rhetoric over the past 6 years about Republicans forgetting why they were sent to Washington. Hey Jackass....look in the mirror when you spout bullshit....now that you folks are in power...you are doing exactly what you accused Republicans of doing.
Here is my advice to the Blue Team. You have only 2 years to try and prove that you are better than the Red Team. If you really want to make that happen instead of looking like a bunch of jackasses....you better stick to your game plan. Remember...the team that does the least, loses the most.
Newsflash: There are alot of congressmen upset with the war strategy. Congress is focused on making sure they let the President know. What a freaking waste of time, energy and tax dollars!
