True Colors Shining Through

The Democrats have been hiding their most basic agenda for some time. It almost started to appear that Democrats were learning how to handle the economy (which is not to say that Bush as done great things by any means) with talks of the need to cut spending. I've heard Democrats speak of cuts in spending from party leaders and presidential candidates, right down to the run of the mill congress men and women. Republicans started spending like it was going out of style and it was the folks on the left who were critical to point out ear marks and government waste. Time and time again, I've even heard the good folks on the left talk about how the poor and middle class needs the tax relief and the rich need to pay more.

Just two days ago, the Democrats that I grew up to know...finally showed their true colors. "Tax and Spend" Democrats are back! Both houses of congress just put plans together for tax increases. Both houses included HUGE increases in domestic programs....to compliment the massive tax increases. The dollar isn't worth a shit right now. The deficit spending is through the roof. The national debt is out of control. In general, I only support tax cuts, however, in order to pay off debt, I would support a small tax increase only on the condition that there be heavy cuts in spending. With a cut in spending and an increase in tax revenue, the ability to control the falling cost of the dollar can be stabilized. Democrats, who believe they magically know more about managing the economy want to tax more and spend more. Balanced or not, that still does not do anything for improving the economy, or recovering lost ground on the dollar. Let's talk about tax relief for a moment. In the proposed bills, the Dems want to increase that taxes for single people making at least $31,850 and double that for couples. Now...where is the relief for the middle class on that one? As for the poor....here's a news flash...POOR PEOPLE DON'T PAY TAX. If they do make enough to pay tax....it's not a lot of money anyway. Are the Dems going after the rich...of course. They get the joy of paying 39% of their income to the Federal Government so it can be thrown away on projects and programs that don't even benefit them, nor the middle class. This all means that a guy making 350K per year can go ahead and give the Feds $136,500. Now....I would like someone to tell me if it's "Fair" (A favorite word from the Democratic Dictionary) to pay $136,000 and get absolutely nothing? Look at it this way. That is also $136,000 that could have gone towards the purchase of homes, cars, vacations, goods and services. All of which would have been able to take that money and employ people, and therefore, provide more money to an economy.

Oh but, I forgot....what about the poor? It's about time the lazy get off their fat asses and contribute to this country. As for the poor and helpless....well...with money flooding the economy, lazy ass people back at work because jobs have finally been created and sales are on the rise...then...this country should be more than capable taking care of those who ACTUALLY can not take care of themselves.

Unfortunately, none of that will happen while our leaders fleece millions from those who can actually make a difference and give it to programs and bureaucracy that has a proven track record of blowing billions without being able to make any difference. We as citizens need to cut back when we fall on hard financial times....why shouldn't our government be equally to the people that it governs? After all....that was the basic concept of the constitution.

So...for me...It's John McCain. I don't like him, I don't like the fact that the republicans have been out of control with spending. But...I do like the fact that he does support cutting the spending that is out of control. If you keep the taxes reasonable, and you cut the spending...this country will "Right" itself.

I'm running for President and I support this message.

But you left out the fact that the Dem's want to also take away your selfworth and the desire to make more money. Why make more when it is just going to be taken? Why should I be ambitious?...so my hard earned money can buy the $150.00 Nike's that man/woman is wearing in the welfare line! You have 2 people...1 who earns a salary of $60,000 and the other who earns $25,000, Person #1 should give Person #2 $17,500 of his/her salary to person #2, why you ask...because as the Democrats suggest "we all should be equal!"

You know me... always able to find the point in both arguments. I'd hesitate to say that the rich get "nothing"... despite the multitude of widely-varying federal budget pie charts out there its clear most tax revenue still goes to military/DoD/state department/homeland security, and a large chunk into the old standbys like transportation, science (HHS, FDA, EPA, NASA, USDA, NWS, DOE, etc), and everybody's favorite : general administration.

I'm a firm believer in gutting the federal budget, and Reagan's hatred of the "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" statement is dead-on... but I get on edge when people make the rich-vs-poor argument... there are plenty of places the government is hemmoraging cash, and social services is often a paper cut compared to the rest. (Not including Social Security and Medicare - that's a whole other rant).

I think politicians in general have completely disconnected with the idea that its OUR money. One thing I've been amazed about living here in the Northwest compared to DC and MD is that most of the time, nothing gets approved without accountability. Almost every major local government decision first spells out where its funding is coming from, then is voted on by the people.

Of course, the locals either take it for granted or say that its all a big show and doesn't affect the final decision, but coming from Maryland, even the attempt to LOOK accountable impresses the hell outta me.

Think about this.... the people who do not pay taxes are getting tax rebates... and the people who are paying the most taxes are not...

The top 10% of wage earners pay 67% of the countries total tax bill... the bottom 50% of wage earners pay 3%.

Today's word is Socialism.

p.s. Actually, even with the current increase in funds going to support the military, more $$$ are funding Social Security than the Military.

edit...

I'm no socialist... but a quick and dirty run of percentages from an unlisted source with no hard numbers doesn't really help your cause.

"The top 10% of wage earners pay 67% of the countries total tax bill... the bottom 50% of wage earners pay 3%."

With some actual figures, that statement could explain itself relatively quickly using 7th grade math (well, 7th when I was in school - probably 12th these days.) Heck, that may even be an ironic statement about the true economic health of our country you didn't even intend to make. :)

What it all boils down to is this.

Do you honestly believe that a tax increase is going to make this country and the situation we are in better....while at the same time, spending is increased?

Personally, I don't think it's so brilliant. Just like when individuals fall on hard times, they have to cut back. I believe the goverment should do the same. Spend the money...when you have the money to spend.

As for "Fair," the Blue Party uses that term without considering how unfair the increased tax is on those who already pay a huge portion of the tax bill. That is not fair at all. Fair is a flat percentage across the board. If everybody has to pay 30% so be it.

Amen. Shame that's so hard for people to grasp - politicians or private citizens alike.

I've love a flat tax (though I fear its ease of cheating), or no income tax at all and a flat sales/lease/service tax - to unshoulder the burden from earnings and profits and move it to assets and acquisition. Haven't really thought out the full details of that one, but it seems to work pretty well on a state level for WA

Please understand that I was not calling anyone posting on this site a socialist. It was more a comment about the direction some of this country's "leaders" have taken (and want to take) our government.

Please do not take it personally.

Do you find it to be ironic that both the dems and the reps were talking about a tax rebate to help boost the economy?

You mean if people keep and spend more of their money, then that helps the economy? Then why do half of them want to take more of our money?
