Anything is better than four more years of McSame.

Obama/Biden 08

Here is my reply-

Can an Obama supporter site any time in history where policy of his nature was successful? Can the Obama supporters use logic and common sense to come to a conclusion that his plans for taxes are going to be an overwhelming success...worth of their cost?

This election has turned into a referendum on feelings. Feelings don't fix problems. Logic, common sense, discipline and understanding how jobs are created...these traits can help fix problems. So far, Obama has only made millions feel good. His policy lacks a vision to see a big picture. For one man to make millions feel good is an astounding accomplishment. (Unlike millions on the left....those of us on the right are capable of giving credit where it is due.) The issues unfortunatly are taking a back seat to the feelings. We are now in a position where we are about to elect a guy who has been unable to show any form of logic when it comes to handling real economic problems. The press reports that Obama has practically saved the universe from collapse, but, they too have no proof that he knows what the hell he's talking about.

Someone on the left...Please help me out here. Articulate using logic and common sense, exactly how higher taxes on those who can hire, while forcing stronger unions that cost more to companies, will somehow create jobs. If you can do this with ZERO talking points and ZERO rehtoric, maybe I too will consider voting for the guy. So far, not a soul...not even those on his campaign staff that I spoke too, have been able to tell me why Obama is the right choice. For millions, "No More of the Same" goes in one ear and out the other. Means NOTHING to me. Give me logicical reasoning as to why Obama's plans will work. Give me a "Big Picture" from the top down as to how his plan will benefit those who make little and those who make lots. Explain it in a business format....maybe then...I might believe that Obama is capable of handling a bad economy. Otherwise....don't waste your energy on talking points and scripted catch phrases with me.

well, I can't give you the Dem take (thank God), but I can give you this left-handed, right-brained, half-blind-in-one-eye view :

You're wrong to discount feelings. The placebo effect is clinically proven time and time again, and may be exactly what we need right now.

I voted for the guy, but let's be honest : GW Bush has been one of the worst presidents of the last 100 years. I'm not even talking about policy or strategery... but about the actual role as figurehead of the nation and its government... as a dignified representative to the world, and as a strong galvanizing force back at home. I can't even listen to the guy anymore.

I like McCain... hell, I voted for him in the '00 primaries and to this day wish he had won then instead of GW. I agree with much of his stated platform, especially on energy policy, and I don't believe the whole weak "McSame" argument. But... he lost me (and many centrists) with Palin - the idea of her as president is sort of a scary comedy act unto itself. When even Colin Powell went the other way, it was almost sad to watch.

With the economic slowdown (brought on by equal parts left, right, and good ol' universal human greed), a massive general malaise settling in like nothing since the 70s, and record deficits... no matter how much they promise, neither potential occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania is going to really get much done with regards to policy or platform.

However, that president will definitely have to make people *think* that things are going better, and the degree to which that president can pull off a "Presidential" look and feel are actually quite important.

(Maybe its not the placebo effect, but more the West Wing effect - have you seen how misty-eyed the far left gets watching that show?)

As more people feel the "tide is turning" and "change" is being "believed in", morale shoots up, they rediscover their lost patriotism (or at least their lost sense of comfort), consumer confidence shoots up, personal spending (and charitable giving - which has had a serious breakdown in the last 2 years) will increase, triggering a massive economic shot in the arm across the board better than any $300 handout could muster.

Or maybe it won't. But in 4 years, we'll remember that there's more to it than that, and we get back to the issues at hand, (and hope to God that another centrist fiscal conservative shows up with some personality)

Look at it this way - would we have had the 1980 Reagan if we didn't have the 1976 Carter?

I will conceded your point on feelings to an extent. Very well put by the way. Confidence may increase based on the sounds coming from DC, however a very anti business policy does get pushed through, I'm not sure how far that emotional tone will get us. Reagan not only brought positive feelings, he also brought a pro business growth policy. That policy created Jobs, which helped boost the positive feelings.

I'm still waiting for a Dem to logically explain how Obama's policy on taxes is actually going to create real lasting growth and jobs.

Palin - Call me crazy, but I like her. She's not as stupid as the press makes her out to be. I'm not saying that she's perfect, but I don't see her failing the American people. Anyone in politics with an approval rating over 80% didn't just earn it with red shoes and a wink.

I look at history and this is where I get my own wisdom when casting a vote. Is Obama going to be like Hoover, but with personality? His proposed policy is very similar to a mix of Hoover and FDR. Only...FDR's policy didn't get us out of the Depression...it was a really big war effort. How many new roads and rails can be built at this point? The New Deal was a great kick in the pants for depressed Americans, but it's was very costly and created massive government programs that continue to cost the tax payer.

Well...there is all of that and the fact that the press doesn't seem to report anything but fluff on him. That in itself is a real bad thing. I do believe there are levels of freedom that can easily be stripped away from us if he's given the power of a single party government. You deny that all you want, but it isn't impossible.

If McCain had picked Liberman, then we would not have Obama as president today.

McCain had to move to the left to energize his base... he should have energized the middle, his base would have followed!
